 Putting the zing in Joe "King"
      Ask Austin, TX. based drummer/singer Kenny Sharretts what it's like to play with living legend and reigning King of Tex-Mex music Joe "King" Carrasco, and he'll have only one word for you. "Awesome!" "Joe was stage diving before most of today's rock stars were out of diapers, and he still brings that same 'have fun till you drop' energy every single night. Moreover, Joe's repertoire covers a vast array of musical styles, so I get to play everything from surf-rock to Tejano to Latin to reggae. The gigs are challenging, but they are also a blast."
      Although Joe tours constantly, Kenny is also currently rehearsing for an upcoming tour with singer/songwriter Gary Steer in support of Gary's soon to be released CD Albatross. "Kenny Aronoff played on the record. Kenny Aronoff!! Boy do I have some seriously big shoes to fill. To add to my task, I'll also be singing a lot of harmony with this band, so I will be pushing the limits every night! I've been developing a specific set of exercises that strengthen my abilities to sing and play at the same time, in good time. Soon, I plan on writing a lesson book based around these exercices.There's nothing like it on the market. Publisher's anyone?"
     Kenny has become a mainstay in the Texas music scene playing with such acts as The Crush, The Mark Chandler Band, country artist Kevin Fowler, Lisa Tingle & Black Pearl, David Spann, Vox Box and the Led Zeppelin tribute band Custard Pie. Although he considers himself primarily a rock and funk drummer, he is also experienced in other styles such as blues, hip hop, rap, country, tejano, big band, and contemporary jazz. He has strong reading skills, and is perfectly comfortable with (or without) a click track. For the right act, he is also ready to go on the road!
      Expanding his career as a musician, Kenny has created a digital media production company called SKP Media, which caters to the music business. SKP Media has produced audio samples, jingles and logos for several .com corporations, designed CD jackets for 3 different Austin bands, and is preparing to release a new CD of drum loops and sound effects entitled "Groupie Loops". Kenny stated "SKP has been an opportunity for me to unite my music education from Sam Houston State University with my BA in business from the University of Texas. In addition, my digital audio skills have come in handy during many recording sessions, which in turn has increased the number of calls I get for session work. Plus I got to build a web page for one of my drum heroes Tony Braunagel. What a bonus!"
